The Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee is due to publish its highly anticipated report into Leasehold Reform on 19 March 2019.
The report examines progress made on leasehold reform, following the conclusion of the Government’s consultation on Tackling unfair practices in the leasehold market in 2017.
Leasehold reform campaigner Louie Burns, Managing Director of enfranchisement specialists Leasehold Solutions, said: “The Government has already acknowledged that the leasehold system is not working in consumers’ best interests. This report from the select committee is welcome news indeed, as it suggests numerous recommendations that will improve the circumstances of leaseholders affected by the profound failures in the leasehold market.
“For years we have been calling for reforms that will limit ground rents, tackle unfair service charges and permission fees, outlaw the sale of leasehold houses and the mis-selling of leasehold properties, and address the systemic imbalances of power that have favoured freeholders’ interests for far too long.
“We urge the Government to look at the committee’s very sensible recommendations and enact legislation that will end the exploitation of leaseholders and fulfil its promise to create a system that works for consumers.”
Louie Burns, Managing Director of Leasehold Solutions is available for interview on 19 March 2019 to discuss the implications of the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee’s recommendations.
